LysR family of transcription factors represents the most abundant family of regulators in bacteria [19047729]. The LysR family regulators control diverse biological pathways such as central metabolism, cell division, quorum sensing, virulence, motility, nitrogen fixation, oxidative stress responses, toxin production, attachment and secretion. End-product or an intermediate of LysR-regulated pathway usually serves as a co-inducer thus providing feedback control loop. Regulators from the LysR family act as either activators or repressors, and often are transcribed divergently with one of the regulated genes [8257110].

Many studied LysR-family regulators in E. coli (LysR, GcvA, IlvY, MetR, LeuO) are implicated in the control of amino acid metabolism. LysR-family regulators consist of two characteristic domains, an N-terminal HTH DNA binding domain (PF00126) and a C-terminal substrate binding domain (PF03466).
