ArsR family of transcription factors constitutes a large family of repressors that collectively provide resistance to a wide range of both biologically required and toxic heavy-metal ions including cadmium, mercury, lead, zinc, cobalt, nickel, copper, silver, arsenic etc. [20586430, 15966722, 20442958]. Under normal conditions ArsR regulators bind their target promoters and repress transcription. The DNA-binding activity of the regulator is impaired by binding of a specific metal ligand to the protein [20442958]. ArsR-family proteins have a characteristic winged HTH DNA binding domain (PF01022), which is usually combined with one of the variable sensor domains.
