NrtR repressor controls expression of genes involved in various aspects of NAD metabolism, including the de novo NAD biosynthesis and salvage pathways, ADP-ribose recycling and niacin uptake. The NrtR regulon and its DNA-binding motif were discovered by application of the comparative genomic approach in diverse taxonomic groups of bacteria [18276643]. The DNA-binding motifs of NrtR showed significant variability between microbial lineages, although the common consensus could be traced for all of them. Besides their major role in the direct regulation of NAD homeostasis, some members of NrtR family in Bacteroidetes are involved in the regulation of sugar pentoses utilization pathways [18276643]. more
