Collection of regulogs for NsrR transcription factor

Transcription factor NsrR from the Rrf2 protein family regulates genes involved in cell protection against nitric oxide (NO) in Proteobacteria and Bacillales. It was originally characterized in beta-proteobacterium Nitrosomonas europeae, where it regulates expression of the copper-nitrite reductase nirK in response to nitrite. Later NsrR was characterized in Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis, wher it controls various NO detoxifixation genes. For DNA binding, NsrR has a helix-turn-helix motif close to the N terminus and three cysteine residues to ligate a 2Fe-2S cluster close to the C terminus. more

The form of the protein that binds DNA specifically is that bound to a 2Fe-2S cluster, but when NO binds to the cluster, NsrR loses its DNA-binding activity. The comparative genomic approach was used to reconstruct orthologous NsrR regulons in various lineages of Proteobacteria and in Bacillales [16261196].
