GntR is a repressor belonging to the LacI family. The GntR function was experimentally analyzed in Escherichia coli, where it control genes involved in gluconate and idonate utilization and the Entner-Doudoroff pathway genes [9537375]. GntR protein dimer binds to its palindromic operator in the absence of inducer, gluconate. In the precence of gluconate GntR protein dissociates form DNA. We used a comparative genomics approach to reconstruct transcriptional regulons controlled by GntR orthologs in Proteobacteria [24966856].
