Transcription factor HypR from the GntR protein family regulates the proline and 4-hydrohyproline utilization genes in Proteobacteria. The HypR regulon and its DNA-binding motif were discovered by application of the comparative genomic approach, first in Shewanella spp. [21810205], where it controls proline dehydrogenase putA and hydrohyproline utilization genes hyp. Recently, HypR regulon was confirmed in Sinorhizobium meliloti, where a set of 4-hydroxyproline induced genes was found under regulation of HypR repressor [22804907].
