FabR is a repressor of the fatty acids biosynthesis genes. FabR belongs to the TetR family of transcriptional regulators. FabR regulation was experimentally characterized in Escherichia coli, as well as in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, where a FabR ortholog was named as DesT. The FabR repressor binds DNA in the presence of unsaturated acyl-acyl carrier protein or acyl-CoA. Using a comparative genomics approach, we reconstructed transcriptional regulons controlled by FabR orthologs in Gammaproteobacteria.
