Transcription factor PrpR from the GntR protein family regulates the propionate catabolism in Proteobacteria. The PrpR regulon and its DNA-binding motif were discovered by application of the comparative genomic approach, first in Shewanella spp. [21810205]. The GntR-family PrpR regulator is a non-orthologous replacement for other regulators of propionate catabolism such as the Fis-family activator PrpR in E.coli.
