Transcription factor NorR from the Fis protein family of sigma-54-dependent activators controls the nitrosative stress response genes in Gamma-, and Beta-proteobacteria. It was originally characterized in Ralstonia eutropha as an nitric oxide (NO)-responsive activator of the NO reductase operon norAB. Later the NorR regulator of E. coli was shown to activate expression of the NO detoxification operon norVW. In the absence of NO, the activity of the central catalytic AAA+ domain of NorR is repressed by direct interaction between the GAF domain and the sigma54-interacting region of the AAA+ domain. more
