NiaR regulators control the NAD biosynthesis and salvage of niacin (vitamin B3) in Firmicutes and Thermotogales [18276644]. It was originally investigated in Bacillus subtilis as a niacin-responsive repressor, which binds to its DNA targets in the presence of niacin [16199587]. NiaR regulators constitute a unique protein family, which is characterized by an N-terminal HTH DNA binding domain (PF08279) and a C-terminal effector binding domain, termed the 3H domain (PF02829).
