CtsR family of transcription factors includes highly conserved master regulators of heat-shock response genes in Gram-positive bacteria [20852588]. Under non-stress conditions, CtsR binds its target sites upstream of class III stress response genes (Clp ATPases, ClpP protease) [22247503]. Elevated temperature leads to posttranslational degradation of CtsR protein, releasing CtsR from target promoters and activating transcription of the corresponding genes/operons [22247503]. CtsR-like proteins constitute a unique family (PF05848) that includes a winged HTH DNA binding domain [20852588].
