Transcription factor FadP from the TetR protein family regulates the fatty acid utilization genes in Betaproteobacteria. The FadP regulon and its DNA-binding motif were discovered by application of the comparative genomic approach [18820024]. FadP is a non-orthologous replacement for other regulators of fatty acid utilization, PsrA (TetR family) and FadR (GntR family), that control the fatty acid degradation genes in other taxonomic groups of Proteobacteria [18820024].
