TrmB family of transcription factors contains regulators homologous to TrmB of Pyrococcus furiosus. TrmB-family proteins act as either global or local transcriptional regulators, and collectively control different metabolic systems, such as sugar uptake, glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, TCA cycle, amino acid and cofactor biosynthesis [19536205]. TrmB-family regulators act as activators and as repressors. Effector molecules of TrmB-family regulators include glucose, maltose, maltotriose, trehalose, maltodexterins and sucrose molecules [19536205, 18470695]. TrmB-family proteins are composed of an N-terminal HTH DNA binding domain (PF01978), and C-terminal regulatory domain (PF11495) that is responsible for oligomerization and effector binding [21148291].

TrmB-family regulators were found both in Bacteria and Archaea, though appear to be more common in Archaea [
