NrdR repressor controls expression of genes for deoxyribonucleotide reductases (nrd) of all three types in most lineages of Bacteria [15949864]. Novel DNA-binding motif (NrdR-box) was first discovered by application of the comparative genomic approach, and the NrdR transcription factor (previously known as hypothetical protein YbaD in E. coli) was attributed to the identified NrdR-box motif by correlating their occurrence with the phylogenetic distribution of ortholog families.
