BglG family of DNA-binding transcription factors constitutes activators of sugar uptake and catabolism genes in Gram-positive bacteria [10438772, 22014119]. BglG-family activators are induced by specific sugars that serve as substrates of cognate phosphotransferase systems (PTS). In contrast to most prokaryotic transcriptional regulators, BglG-family regulators do not bind effector molecules and their activity is controlled by phosphorylation and dephosphorylation. BglG-family activators contain one or two N-terminal DNA binding domains (PF08279 and/or PF05043), one or two central PTS regulation domains (PRD) (PF00874), and a C-terminal PTS EIIA-like domain (PF00359). more
