Transcription factor LldR from the GntR protein family regulates the lactate utilization genes in Proteobacteria. It was originally characterized in E.coli as a repressor of the lldPRD catabolic operon. L-lactate is an inducer that interacts with LldR, causing a conformational change that dissociates the repressor from the promoter sequences. After dissociation, transcription of the lld genes is derepressed.
