Transcription factor MerR from the MerR protein family regulates mercury resistance in Proteobacteria. MerR bind to the promoter regions of genes for a mercury transporter and mercuric ion reductase and is responsible for their high expression when cells are exposed to elevated levels of mercury ions [16753059].
