Transcription repressor MetJ regulates the methionine metabolism in Gamma-proteobacteria. MetJ belongs to the ribbon-helix-helix family of regulatory proteins. It was originally characterized in E. coli as a repressor of genes involved in biosynthesis and transport of methionine [1943695]. MetJ as a homodimer recognizes and binds to an 8-bp DNA sequence called the met-box [1406951]. The affinity of MetJ to this site is enhanced by S-adenosylmethionine [2677754]. The comparative genomic approach was used to reconstruct orthologous MetJ regulons in Gamma-proteobacteria [22082356].
