RpiR family of transcription factors comprises widespread in Bacteria family of regulators that control mostly sugar and sugar phosphate catabolic pathway including the maltose, glucose and ribose metabolism, pentose phosphate pathway, inositol catabolism and N-acetylmuramic acid catabolism [18723630, 8576032, 19506074, 21926234, 21784930]. RpiR-family regulators act as either activators or repressors. Some RpiR-family regulators are dual regulators (such as HexR in Shewanella spp.) [21849503]. RpiR-family regulators are composed of a characteristic N-terminal DNA-binding HTH domain (PF01418) and a C-terminal sugar phosphate binding domain (PF01380).
